Heart + Hustle Podcast Interview #101 - Becoming a Full-Time Artist

Whether you are a full-time Entrepreneur that's been around for awhile or just starting your path to entrepreneurship, it's common to seek advice from different sources. Whether if it's from a daily newsletter, self-help book, or podcast, we tend to try to gain as much knowledge as we can. The ladies at Heart + Hustle Podcast are no different. Their motto is:

Dream Big. Work Hard. Repeat. ⚡️🖤

After meeting Charisma O'Keefe at the Your Story Workshop last year, I began listening to the podcast and got to listen to different topics discussed by herself, Angelica Yarde, and other women who talk about business and life. I was honored to be asked to join them for a recent episode discussing the evolution of my business, becoming a mom-preneur, and plans for Only One Mark's future.

Being apart of Tuesdays Together Miami has provided me with a great opportunity of working with like minded creative entrepreneurs that do believe in the message of “community over competition”.   It’s not just some Kumbaya Mantra we recite each meeting. It is a legitimate time each month where the cat claws are put away and people help other like people with their businesses. And from time to time, Tuesdays Together Miami has hosted a few workshops to help said group of entrepreneurs focus in on topics like goal setting and marketing. This month, the 2nd Annual Hello Hustle was held and the day couldn’t have turned out any better.

2018: A New Adventure for a New Year

As another year has come and gone, I can't help but be so grateful for what 2017 brought our way.

Going into 2017, I wasn't sure we could top all of the exciting things we, Gus (my husband) and I, had experienced throughout 2016. We took two trips out of Miami and got to see New York and Las Vegas for the first time ever. The fact that we both got to see a city get covered in snow right in front of our eyes and got to see the beauty and glory that can be found in the wonder that is the Grand Canyon. We also had FINALLY bought our own little casita and felt like life was finally starting to move forward.

But oh, how 2017 showed up to impress. While there were some not so fun moments that will remain nameless, this past year really opened new doors with new possibilities that can best be described as dreams come true. In April, I made a huge decision to take a leap of faith and make Only One Mark, Inc. my sole source of income. As scary as that was (even to say it out loud), it was one of the best decisions I have ever made. While this change hasn't been easy (nor did I expect it to be), I'm still learning new things one day at a time and even surprise myself from time to time with the #girlboss looking back at me in the mirror. Another major decision was to rebrand Only One Mark, Inc. in August.  It not only gave the company an update it desperately needed, but also opened the door to allow Gus to take a step back behind the scenes and I a step forward to being the main voice for our company.

And how could I forget all of the wonderful design opportunities this new year presented for OOMI as well. There have been so many wonderful clients that I just couldn't be more grateful for and so many opportunities from Vendors to help bring details of their styled shoots to life. So without further ado... below are some highlights from this past year including our #2017bestnine that was generated from our 2017 top Instagram posts.

But wait! I've saved the best for last...

You may or may not have noticed that things have gotten a little quiet (too quiet even for me) on our blog and social media profiles. Well, there is a huge reason for it.

🎉 Gus and I are so excited to announce that we are EXPECTING!! 🎉

Baby G's Announcement/Only One Mark Inc Star Wars Jedi Announcement

We found out on Halloween that we were expecting our own little Padawan (aka young Jedi in training). While we don't know if it's a girl or a boy (and trust the #teamboy & #teamgirl guesses have begun between family and friends), Gus and I couldn't be more excited about this new life chapter. Baby G is already loved so much by so many and I can't wait to share more with you as each month goes by. #maytheforcebewithus ✨

The Power of Powersheets

How many times have you actually set a goal for the New Year and given up after a month? If you are anything like me, it only took me like two days and it was back to the "norm".  Well, that all changed about two years ago. That is when I caught a webinar about making things happen by a woman named Lara Casey. I ended up purchasing her book called Make It Happen and actually blogged about it here. In her book, she talked about taking small steps towards your goals instead of being overwhelmed by one HUGE goal. At that time, life felt upside down. I was working in both my business and working for someone else full time , trying to buy a house, and tons of other crazy things I won't get into. So needless to say, I was in need of making a change that would turn my world right side up.

After reading Make It Happen, it was like a lightbulb finally flickered on.  At the end of the book, she mentioned practical ways to start prioritizing what was important. #Powersheets was one of the tools she mentioned. As timing would have it, #Powersheets were about to go on sale for the next year. I knew I had to get my hands on them. So, I purchased a 6 month set of #Powersheets and waited anxiously for the mailman to deliver them. I purchased a binder (that year's #Powersheets had a 3 ring hole punch), pens and markers that would help me get messy while I began to goal set. Those sheets lasted a year. Why? Because I didn't prioritize my goal setting...but it was progress. Progress that I would not have made if I had not purchased this goal-setting tool. To be honest, it wasn't until this year that I finally began really dedicating time weekly to my #Powersheets. And, oh, how I saw things cultivate and finally bloom.

Since the time I began using #Powersheets, I've been able to jump full time into the work I love, prioritize time with family and friends, and begin planning for other exciting chapters in my life. Ultimately, thinking about how your goals will affect you when you are 80 in your favorite rocking chair while sipping some cafecito really puts things into perspective. I don't know about you, but I want to enjoy that time in what's truly important.

Are you looking to make a change? Transition to work that you are passionate about, lose weight, or something else you wish you could change? Why don't you start today? It just so happens the 2018 #Powersheets are available now and it would be a great time to take a step towards making intentional, positive change. You won't regret it.
